2008 Faculty Colloquium is now open for reservations. Space is very limited! Faculty Colloquium Series Launched in January 2000, the Faculty Colloquium is designed to foster interdisciplinary, liberal arts inquiry among Hanover College faculty. Toward that end, the Center for Free Inquiry solicits proposals from Hanover College faculty for a topic and readings to serve as the basis for the colloquium. Once a topic and readings are chosen, Hanover College faculty are invited to apply to participate. Several faculty members are selected from the registrants and supplied with the reading. Roughly three months later, the participants are taken on a two-and-a-half-day retreat, where they participate in the kind of freewheeling, cross-disciplinary inquiry that defines the liberal arts. All Hanover College faculty members are encouraged to submit proposals to lead colloquia in their areas of interest. The work of the colloquia can range from the discussion of a book, to scientific lab or field work, to ventures in artistic appreciation or expression. These colloquia will give Hanover faculty an opportunity to practice what we preach about the liberal arts, and explore topics which may lie outside our disciplinary expertise, in the company of colleagues bringing a wealth of perspectives to the common endeavor. The number of participants in each colloquium will be limited to 15, in addition to the leader. Email proposals to: cfi@hanover.edu
