Immigration
Symposium Gets National Attention
Finding
Common Ground on Immigration Reform by

Immigration
Discussion Continues
Immigration and American National Identity
March 12, 13, 14, 2006.
Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana
The United States is a nation of immigrants. The Statue of Liberty stands
proudly in New York Harbor welcoming the huddled masses of the world who
yearn to breathe free. We take pride in the melting pot that has made
generations of immigrants American. Yet there has always been tension
in America between newcomers and those whose forebears arrived on these
shores earlier. In our own time many fear that the numbers of people flocking
into the United States have grown too great to assimilate.

The Importance of Immigration for America. March 7, 2006 - 7-9
pm Frazier Arms Museum, Louisville Kentucky
Though it was formed as a nation of immigrants, the U.S. today experiences
a flow of immigrants that has further stoked the tension between newcomers
and those whose ancestors arrived earlier. Some argue that recent migration
threatens our national identity, puts unacceptable strain on our schools
and social services, and enhances the threat of terrorism. Others insist
that new immigrants create a more diverse and vibrant society.
Symposium to examine new U.S.-European
relationship
Although they have been bound together in a strong alliance since the
1940s, the U.S. and Europe today find themselves confronting international
issues with increasingly different philosophies and methods. Such issues
as global terrorism, a new wave of migration from Middle Eastern and African
nations, the emergence of independent nations once behind the Iron Curtain,
and the formation of the European Union, strain the traditional partnership.
Ben Franklin was a Great

exit interviews, participants indicated it was the best ever. In addition
to the excellent programming presented, our participants were treated
to a visit by our special guest, 100 year old Ethel Mathias. More
