John Ahrens joined the Hanover faculty in 1992; he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1978. He is a specialist in Ethics, Political Theory, the History of Modern Philosophy, and Roman Philosophy. His personal web page (which is offline at present, but will be back up soon) contains links which reflect his interest in the martial arts, the culture and philosophy of ancient Rome, drumming, and other odd topics. Every other year, he leads a group of students to Rome and Pompei in Italy. An active member of the Hanover community, Dr. Ahrens is faculty advisor to a student-run coffee house and the Martial Arts Club, served as Senior Editor for CFI for 4 years before assuming duties as Associate Director where he is editor of Inquiries.
